BCP presents Indiana premiere of original comedy

INDIANAPOLIS — The Buck Creek Players will continue their 2012-13 season "In the Spotlight" with the Indiana premiere of the comedy "Gender Souffle," written by Lisa Cripps.

Opening March 29 and running for two weekends through April 7, curtain times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays with 2:30 p.m. matinees offered on Sundays. All performances are at Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students (through college) and senior citizens (ages 62 and older). Due to adult situations, this production is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older.

Reservations are recommended and may be made online at www.buckcreekplayers.com or by calling 862-2270. Group discounts are also available for parties of 10 or more.

Kaye Anders (Shaun Ancelet), a book editor living in a Chicago apartment, is single and looking ... for a roommate, that is. Her former roommate, Natalie (Sonja Distefano), recently moved out after marrying her boyfriend. Frustrated with her own lack of success on the dating scene, as well as lonely and financially struggling without Natalie to help share the rent, Kaye runs the gamut of creeps and freaks trying to find a suitable replacement.

Enter Harris Moore (Robert Webster Jr.), a professor on sabbatical looking for a place to settle while continuing his research on "The Sociology of Gender." After boldly reassuring her he is not an axe murderer, Kaye takes Harris in and the sparks soon begin to fly. Could an attraction be building between the two, in spite of their staunch differences of opinion on the opposite sex? Or will they kill each other first?

Other characters show up, adding extra spice to the souffle: There's Poot (Hannah Parnell), the tool-toting professional beauty contestant; Mark (Patrick Becker), the handsome womanizing jerk; and a couple of other would-be roommates. James Creech, Melissa DeVito, and Patrick M. Murphy round out the small cast of eight.
