Avon will host a family 5K bicycle ride and one-mile bike/walk at 11 a.m. April 20.
The ride will start at the new trail head in Washington Township Park across from the splash pad. The 5K route for families will follow the new trail along White Lick Creek through the township park and then exit the park and go through the Station Hill neighborhood and come back through the Ridge Hill neighborhood to the park.
The one-mile bike/walk route will be along the new trail and will circle back in the park to the beginning. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new trail at 11 a.m. before the ride.
The new trail was funded with federal transportation enhancement funds. It runs from the splash pad to the iron whipple truss bridge that crosses the creek near Avon Softball Park. Town officials are beginning design work to continue the trail from that point to Town Hall Park. It also will be funded with federal transportation grants.
The ride is the first family bike ride in Avon and is a free event. Parents and their children are encouraged to attend.
