Smithville foundation awards grant to HCCF

AVON — The Hendricks County Community Foundation announced it has been awarded grants totaling $57,500 from the Smithville Charitable Foundation.

The grants will fund a variety of programs and projects in Hendricks County.

These include:

• 2014 FAFSA Days: Offered at each of the six public high schools in Hendricks County, FAFSA Days are an opportunity for parents and students alike to receive help completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as well as one-on-one interpretation of the results by a representative from the National Center for College Costs. Parents and students can attend any of the six FAFSA Days, which are free to attend.

• LINK: Provided by Hendricks County Senior Services, LINK provides transportation to persons 60 years of age and over, residing in Hendricks County. Transportation is provided for daily necessities like medical appointments, grocery shopping, legal, social service, financial business, nutrition sites, and other life-essential service destinations. This service is provided on a donation basis.

• North West Hendricks Education Foundation Fund: Matching grant dollars are provided to help create this endowment fund that will provide grants to teachers throughout the North West Hendricks School Corporation.

• Smithville Charitable Foundation Endowment Fund: Smithville continues to build its permanent, endowed fund held at HCCF to increase its impact here in Hendricks County.

HCCF Executive Director William A. Rhodehamel was thrilled with the news.

“We’re very grateful to the Smithville Charitable Foundation for its thorough review of our application and its decision to support programs and organizations that benefit the citizens of Hendricks County and add to their quality of life,” he said. Rhodehamel added that the HCCF will submit reports to the Smithville Charitable Foundation on the impact of the grant on the community.

Rhodehamel noted that the community foundation continuously researches and pursues funding opportunities that fit its mission and support organizations, and that the Smithville Charitable Foundation is an excellent match of resources to causes. Rhodehamel spoke to what this donation means for Hendricks County.
