On Monday, Avon Town Council President Marcus Turner appointed Sean Stoops to the position of police chief, which was formerly held by Jack Miller.
The change was effective yesterday.
Avon officials have been relatively quiet up to this point about why Miller was replaced.
“I’d like to thank Jack Miller for his service to the Avon Community and wish him well,” Turner said in a press release. “I look forward to working with Sean regarding public safety matters.”
According to the release from the town, Stoops was serving as a lieutenant for the APD and oversaw the Investigations Division. Stoops was one of the first six officers hired at the department in 1997.
In 2000, Stoops was promoted to detective and became the supervisor of the Investigations Division in 2004.
Before working for the Town of Avon, Stoops served in the United States Air Force for three years and in the Indiana Air National Guard for four years. He also worked for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
Stoops lives in Avon and is married with three children and one grandchild.
