Jim Beebe, owner of CrossFit Unbreakable in Plainfield, held a fundraiser with his membership called Barbells and Burpees for Boobs.
For every $80 raised, a woman would be able to have a free mammogram. The event raised $1,020. The event took place Oct. 19 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For the event, athletes performed either or both of the two workouts. The first workout is “Grace,” where athletes will clean and jerk weight from the ground up and over their heads. They had seven minutes to do 30 reps at one of three different weights. Women could choose from 65-pound, 95-pound, or 135-pound. Men could choose from 95-pound, 135-pound, or 185-pound.
The other workout was “Seven Minutes of Heaven” where athletes had to perform as many burpees as possible in seven minutes.
“We had athletes from 11 years old to 44 participate,” Beebe said. “Men and women, brand new and experienced in CrossFit participated. It was a lot of fun and definitely will be an annual event.”
