DUMC hosting silent auction and dinner

Danville United Methodist Church will host a silent auction and dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at Twin Bridges Golf Club, 1001 Cartersburg Road, Danville.

The evening will include dinner, entertainment, and silent and live auctions.

The event theme is “Be A World Changer, Beginning in Our Community,” as proceeds will support Shared Blessings Food Pantry and the facilities that house the ministry.

Shared Blessings Food Pantry is a cooperative of eight area churches, including Danville United Methodist, Danville Christian, Bartlett Chapel, St. Augustine, Unitarian Universalist, Danville Friends, Mary Queen of Peace, and West Bridge.

Since Shared Blessings opened its doors on Feb. 11, 2006, the average number of families served per week has increased from three to five to the current 60 families per week. That equates to more than $4,500 in food distributed each week.

Shared Blessings is funded solely by the USDA commodities program, local food banks, and corporate and private donations.

All in the community are invited to the auction and dinner.

Jack Lawson will serve as auctioneer, and items available include a 500 Mile Race Day package, a Peyton Manning limited edition autographed print, a Doris Andrews painting of a Danville scene, an estate planning package, gift certificates from local restaurants, and more.

Tickets are $40 each, of which $20 is a charitable donation.

For more information or to reserve a spot, call DUMC at 745-4330 or visit the website at www.danvilleumc.org.
