---- — SPEEDWAY — The fifth annual Speedway Spectacular, presented by the Speedway Chamber of Commerce, was held Saturday and there was no shortage of activities.
Speedway Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Connie Harris said the event kicked off with a fundraiser.
“It’s called Diamond in the Rough, they do a fundraiser and they do a walk, bike, and run event,” she said. “They start at 8 a.m.”
Harris said a big part of the festival is the parade that takes place on Main Street and this year it featured 43 participants, which included members of the Speedway Police Department, Speedway athletic teams, and State Representative District 92 Karlee Macer.
That was followed by the community festival.
“(After the parade) we end up (at Leonard Park) and we have live music, vendors, a hay ride, pumpkin painting, face painting, blow ups, IndyCar rides, a cornhole tournament, and a chili cook off,” she said.
Also, new this year was Paws in the Park, where animal-related vendors set up booths and a portion of the park was turned into a dog park.
Harris said the event couldn’t take place without the help of many dedicated volunteers.
“It just takes a lot of volunteers and a lot of people working together to put it together,” she said. “It’s been a really fun event.”
Allison Transmission, PNC Bank, Gordon Food Services, and Dawson’s on Main sponsored the event.
