---- — Gilbert Allen of Danville died March 14. He was 83.
Born March 10, 1931, in Corning, N.Y., he was a son of Horace H. and Anna (Tiedman) Allen. He married Helen “Sue” Lytle in Lawrenceburg in 1954 and she survives.
Mr. Allen was a mechanic, having spent 30 years in the commercial freight trucking business. He maintained his position as the company changed from Motor Freight, Branch Motor Freight, Campbell, to Yellow Freight, retiring in 1985. He worked several years for Ditch Witch in Danville before retiring from there in 1966.
He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 135.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; sons Chuck (Connie) Allen of Addison, M.Y., Tom (Leslie) Allen of LeCanto, Fla., Bob (Becky), Randy (Kelly) Allen of Danville, Joe Allen of Palm Coast, Fla., Jim (Cheri) Allen of North Salem and Steve (Barbara) Allen of Peru; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers and nine sisters.
Preceding him in death were a grandchild and three brothers.
Services are 7 p.m. April 4 at the Ellis Park Train Station in Danville, with calling for four hours prior.
Memorials may be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society.
