Speaker to 'inspire like a rock star'

DANVILLE — Nationally-renowned speaker and personal branding expert Thaddeus Rex will appear on behalf of the Danville, Plainfield, and Avon rotary clubs at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Royal Theater, 59 S. Washington St.

As passionate supporters of child safety, the theater and Rotary will present Rex's "Inspire Like a Rock Star" program, with all proceeds benefiting Susie's Place, a child advocacy center based in Avon. The presentation includes a reception and light snacks. Tickets are $20 for adults or $10 for students.

Indianapolis is the city that nurtured Rex's career, and he's excited to be back. Born and raised in Indiana, he moved from Bloomington to Indianapolis shortly after finishing college, only to find his chosen music career failing and himself a starving artist. Struggling to buy groceries, deep in debt, and receiving notice his heat was about to be turned off, Rex needed a change. Recognizing out-of-town acts seemed to gobble up all the best gigs, Rex decided to even the odds, quit begging for work in Indiana, and begin calling venues in California and Oregon instead. The gambit paid off, and with 37 paid appearances across the west coast, Rex began his professional career 2,000 miles from home.

By focusing on motivation and not just entertainment, Rex managed to stand out. What began as a man, a guitar, and five fans at a local bookstore swelled to more than 150 appearances in 28 states by the end of the first year, and soon grew into a thriving business, selling out large theatres and even hockey arenas.

He advises and creates programs for the National Endowment for the Arts, Chicago Public Libraries, NYC Parks Foundation, and many more. After being applauded by Indiana's governor for helping create unique programs to foster rural entrepreneurs, Rex's ability to create and sell unique ideas caught the attention of local businessmen. At their request, Rex created a new series of programs to help executives and salespeople communicate new ideas faster through product and personal branding.
