Hendricks County Flyer

---- — Dear Hendricks County Commissioners:

Since last Sunday, we have stayed home or around the neighborhood like you ordered, due to the snow storm we knew was coming for a week.

I ventured out today (Thursday) and found the county roads unsafe, covered in ice/snow and ruts. Traveling east on 10th Street out of Danville, the road surface was OK until you passed C.R. 200 E. where the county highway takes over.

From there east to Indy it was unsafe, full of ice and ruts.

I am not a highway guy, but spreading sand on ice and snow does not do much. I realize you operate on the cheap, but maybe you should OK the purchase of road salt for the next storm.

Schools and business have been hit hard by the poor, unsafe condition of the county roads you’re responsible for.

Did you call in private contractors to help? Why not? Why are the smaller trucks and pickups used by the highway department sitting in the parking lot with no plows?

Rockville Road/U.S. 36 was unacceptable and hazardous. Did you contact the governor or INDOT and ask why?

Unlike government workers, most people don’t get paid if they’re not at work.

Temperatures warmed up Wednesday. I saw two highway trucks Thursday loaded with sand. Why are they not spreading road salt on the ice?

Maybe you will be better prepared and do better for the next storm so schools and business do not have to close for a week.
