CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Caregiver of the Year.
Personal caregivers in Central Indiana who support family members or friends of any age, who, for whatever reason, currently are unable to take care of themselves, are eligible for the award. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 3, 2014.
JoAnn Fowler Combs of Indianapolis was named the 2013 Caregiver of the Year. At various times during the past decade, this long-term caregiver helped five family members when they faced life-threatening illnesses, debilitating physical conditions, or mental illness. Combs is one of the estimated 65.7 million people who are caregivers in the U.S.
“The Caregiver of the Year award recognizes the selflessness, dedication, and resourcefulness that Combs and other caregivers demonstrate every day,” CICOA President and CEO Orion Bell said in a press release. “It also provides an opportunity to help caregivers remain encouraged, healthy, and strong in a very demanding role.”
Nomination forms are available online at http://www.cicoa.org/services/careaware/caregiver-of-the-year-form.html.
They must include the name of the caregiver, relationship of the nominator to the caregiver, and a short essay describing how the caregiver models the attributes of courage, sacrifice, strength, and creativity in overcoming the sometimes overwhelming stresses and obstacles associated with providing care.
Entries may be submitted online to email@example.com or through the mail (postmarked by Feb. 3, 2014) to: Caregiver of the Year, CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions, 4755 Kingsway Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46205.
