While Hendricks County might be one of the most rapidly growing areas in the country, this growth doesn't mean everyone in our community has a roof over their head. About 135 children in Hendricks County were homeless last year.
A group of concerned citizens began meeting in 2010 to address the problem and find a solution. This group, now called Family Promise of Hendricks County, is an affiliate of the national Family Promise organization. Across the country, nearly 80 percent of families that Family Promise serves find permanent housing.
Family Promise of Hendricks County seeks to combat homelessness by calling on congregations and the community to volunteer their time, talent, and treasure in a countywide effort aimed at tackling this issue head on. The goal is to have an operating program in place by October.
More information will be forthcoming concerning upcoming fundraising efforts, including a golf outing set for May 18 at Deer Creek Golf Course. Business and community leaders are asked to consider participating to assist area homeless families.
