Authorities looking to crack Avon burglary case

AVON — Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department detectives hope a photo snapped by an Avon homeowner helps lead them to a man wanted for questioning in several burglaries in the town.

The burglaries are occurring during daytime hours and entry is being made by breaking out a window.

A homeowner recently took photos of a subject and his vehicle, believing the man was preparing to break into her residence. Police say they don’t know if the man who was photographed is connected to the burglaries in any way, but they would like to speak to him.

“What’s happening is, during these daytime hours, burglars are banging on the door to see if anybody’s home, and if they don’t get a response, they smash a window out and burglarize the home,” Lt. Jim Yetter of the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department said.

Yetter said this particular homeowner looked out the window and was startled by the man who approached the door. The homeowner then grabbed a camera.

“We don’t know if he saw (the homeowner), but (the homeowner) snapped a photo of him and it’s a really good photo,” Yetter said. “The homeowner felt like there was something wrong and he ended up leaving, but we have a photo of him and the vehicle.”

Yetter said the homeowner called 911, but the suspect had left the area before deputies could get there.

Deputies responded to three other burglary runs on the same day.

Anyone with information on the man in the photo is asked to call Lt. Chuck Morefield at 745-4052.
