DANVILLE — Earlier this week, Hendricks County Commissioners consented to have a public hearing March 18 for four traffic ordinances near County Roads 750 North and 1000 East by St. Malachy Catholic School.
“We had a request to do a traffic study a while back on this road that passes in front of St. Malachy,” County Engineer John Ayers said. “As part of doing that, we decided we should also establish some school zone speeds through there.”
They did the traffic study, and Ayers brought commissioners four ordinances to consider: two for different speed zones on C.R. 750, a speed zone on C.R. 1000 E., and the school zone.
“What we usually do with the school zone is we declare the school zone be from property line to property line,” Ayers said. “We are recommending a 25 mph during school time; sometimes we say it’s during school hours, other times we say when kids are present. My opinion is that it’s better to say when children are present being as this covers other activities.”
A hearing on the proposed ordinances has been set for March 18.
