Detectives with the Avon Police Department have made an arrest in a kidnapping and sexual assault case that took place last week outside of the Avon Walmart.
According to information from the Avon Police Department, Michael Parrish, 37, of Indianapolis, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape stemming from a Feb. 6 incident.
Investigators learned that Parrish had allegedly abducted two women at gunpoint — in the presence of 3-year-old child — from the Walmart parking lot, forced them to drive to a nearby apartment complex and sexually assaulted them. He then forced the women to drive to their Clermont house, where both women were assaulted again. A male roommate of the victim was at the residence at the time of the incident and was also allegedly battered and tied up.
Parrish then fled the victim’s resident in a stolen vehicle.
Early Sunday morning, the stolen vehicle was located by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.
Avon detectives then arrested the driver for kidnaping and rape and impounded the stolen vehicle.
Detectives are working in conjunction with other agencies as the suspect is believed to be involved in additional crimes in the Indianapolis area.
Because these investigations are on-going, the suspect’s photograph will not be released at this time.
Fox59, the Hendricks County Flyer news partner, has learned one of the crimes Parrish is being investigated for is an incident on Feb. 8, in which a woman was assaulted outside of the Tropicana Bar on West Washington St. Police said the attacker dropped their cellphone, which was logged into Parrish’s Facebook page.
Avon police officials said the case was kept quiet up to this point to protect the victims that came forward and to give Parrish a false sense of security.
Parrish’s hearing took place Tuesday afternoon.
