Accident sends three to hospital

BY CHARLEE BEASOR

DANVILLE A car that struck a power line pole shortly before 2 p.m. Friday at 3595 N. S.R. 236 sent three of its passengers to the hospital.

Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Lindsay Shaw said the driver, whose name was not being released at the time, was driving northbound on S.R. 236 when the car began to go off the road. Shaw said the driver was unable to recover control of the vehicle and crashed into the pole. The car came to rest in a field.

“There were five passengers in the car and three were transported to the hospital for safe measures,” Shaw said. “It was a normal crash; we don’t suspect drugs or alcohol were factors.”

The driver and other front seat passenger were not taken to the hospital, though Shaw said they elected to go along with the other three passengers. No serious injuries were suspected and they were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. None of the passengers’ names were being released at the time.

“It was a cut and dry accident; we don’t think speed was a factor,” Shaw said.

The only damage to the car was where it hit the pole at the back, right passenger door. The back seat passengers had to be taken out through the left side of the car.

Representatives from Hendricks Power Cooperative were on the scene to tie down the power lines to keep them out of the road.

“There was no need to tie the road up at this time and get a crew out here, but (the power lines) are no danger to anybody, they’re just keeping them off the road,” Shaw said.

Danville fire and rescue responded to the scene and Shaw said the passengers were taken to Hendricks Regional Health.
