Hendricks County Flyer to offer 2009 baby calendar

by charlee beasor

Think your kid is cute?

Enter them in the 2009 Hendricks County Flyer baby calendar contest and prove it to the rest of the county.

The first-place winner will be featured on the front of the calendar and will receive a $2,500 U.S. Savings Bond. Second- and third-place winners will be featured in the calendar and will win $1,000 and $500 U.S. Savings Bonds, respectively. The next 10 children with the highest number of votes will be featured inside the calendar and the top 100 babies will also appear in the calendar. Placement will be determined by the Hendricks County Flyer.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 24, residents can vote on the cutest babies on the Flyer’s website, www.flyergroup.com. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

This is the second year for the calendar contest.

Bill Jarchow, regional advertising director for the Hendricks County Flyer, said the contest was so popular last year that they had to bring it back for another year.

“The calendar was very, very popular last year,” he said. “There was a lot of participation from the community with entries and voting. It was very exciting to watch in the last five minutes (of the voting) last year, people were sending votes in constantly.”

Jarchow said last year there were 10,000 to 12,000 votes submitted.

Photos may be submitted until 5 p.m. Nov. 21. To submit a photo, visit the website at www.flyergroup.com and complete the form, which includes the name of the baby, the name of the person submitting the photo, and a phone number. Photos may also be submitted by coming into the Hendricks County Flyer office at 8109 Kingston St., Suite 500, Avon. Cost is $10 per entry and cash, check, money order, or credit card are acceptable forms of payment.

Photos that are sent digitally must be in JPEG format, no bigger than 1 MB and must be a resolution of 800 x 600. Professional photographs, Kiosk, and color printer photographs cannot be accepted.

Only one photo per child will be accepted and photos must have been taken before the child’s fourth birthday, regardless of the child’s current age.

Clarian West is sponsoring the contest and proceeds will go to charities of their choice. Jarchow said they chose Riley Children’s Hospital and Sheltering Wings last year.

“We know there are a lot of cute babies in Hendricks County,” Jarchow said. “This not only benefits the charities, but also the winners.”

To vote for the cutest babies in the county, visit the website, drop ballots off at the office, or send them in the mail. Mailed votes must be postmarked by Dec. 3.

Voting is open to the public and costs 25 cents per vote. There is no limit on the amount of votes someone can cast.

Voting totals will be posted online weekly.

Photos will be published in the Hendricks County Flyer Nov. 25, 27, 29, and Dec. 2, as well as online. The 2009 Baby Calendar will be inserted in the Hendricks County Flyer beginning Jan. 1. Additional copies may be purchased at the office for $2 each, while supplies last.
