New book showcases history of Danville

DANVILLE A new book by Jeffrey K. Baldwin documents Danville’s history through more than 200 photographs. It’s now available at area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, and through Arcadia Publishing by calling (888)-313-2665 or by visiting the website at www.arcadiapublishing.com.

Baldwin will sign copies of his book starting at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Danville Public Library, 101 S. Indiana St.

Previously called “New Eden,” Danville was established in the early 1800s as the county seat of Hendricks County and has since remained the cultural, governmental, and agricultural hub of the county.

Highlights of the book include numerous unpublished photographs from the collections of residents and public archives spanning 1824 to the present, including a showcase of Danville Normal College during its existence from 1878 to 1951.

Baldwin said he hopes his book will “remind long-term Danville residents of the rich heritage that they share, as well as bring knowledge of Danville’s unique past to the new visitors, interested persons, and people who choose to make Hendricks County their new home.”

A portion of the book’s sales will be donated to the Friends of the Hendricks County Historical Museum, Inc.

Baldwin is a native of Danville and a member of the Society of Indiana Pioneers. He has practiced law for 30 years and is currently president of the Friends of the Hendricks County Historical Museum.
