A Beech Grove woman was arrested last Wednesday and charged with robbery of National City Bank, 1259 S. High School Road.
Michelle Dougherty, 36, was arrested at the Dollar Inn motel in Indianapolis about three hours after police say she confessed to the robbery.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, police responded to a hold up alarm at the bank at 9:20 a.m. that day. Bank employees said they had just been robbed by a woman.
Police say the woman passed a threatening note demanding an undisclosed amount of cash before she left the bank on foot. No weapon was observed or implied during the incident.
IMPD Officer Christopher Brown obtained a surveillance photo of the suspect and showed it to several people at the Dollar Inn. After determining that she had been staying there, police took her into custody to be questioned.
Police say Dougherty confessed to the robbery and was charged with robbery, a class C felony. As of press time, she was being held at the Marion County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
As of press time, police had not recovered the stolen money. Dougherty told them that she was coerced in to committing the robbery by two other individuals who met her afterwards and escaped with the money.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call IMPD at 327-3529 or Crimestoppers at 262-TIPS.
