Browsburg hosts golf tournament

By Charlee Beasor

The Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce will host its first annual Big-O Tires Golf Outing at Quail Creek Golf Club in Pittsboro on Tuesday.

The outing will benefit the chamber and the Brownsburg High School athletic department. The chamber will choose a different community organization each year to earn a portion of the proceeds from the event as they continue the event from year to year.

Walter Duncan, chamber executive director, and Mike Trammel, owner and operator of Big-O Tires, came up with the idea of a golf outing. Trammel is also a chamber board member.

Trammel said this year they chose the athletic department because of the money crunch from the state championships last year.

“We knew for a fact that the athletic department took a pretty bad hit last year as far as the dollars went with the basketball state championships,” he said.

Trammel said he is looking forward to a day of golf that benefits the community and the chamber.

“It will be just a day of good conversation with fellow people and hopefully it will be a day that is nice outside and we can raise some money for the athletic department and the chamber,” Trammel said.

Aside from golf, participants can meet the Indianpolis Colts mascot, Blue, and get a chance to have their photo taken with the Vince Lombardi trophy, on loan from the Colts.

Lunch will be provided by Frank and Mary’s in Pittsboro and each participant will receive a door prize.

First- and second-place winners will receive gift certificates from Quail Creek Golf Club and Trammel said they also plan to give away a set of tires and a few Colts tickets.

There are currently about 72 golfers signed up for the day, Trammel said. Sponsors include Hendricks Regional Health, Maplehurst, Ray’s Trash, and Comfort Suites, among others.

The cost of the scramble is $75 per player, $50 for a hole sponsor, and $250 for a special hole sponsor which includes long drive and closest to the pin holes. Registration for the event will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., which is when the Vince Lombardi trophy will be on display for participants to see.

To sign up or for more information, call Trammel at 858-9800 or Duncan at 852-7885.
