DANVILLE —
The Indiana Master Naturalist has announced it will hold workshops from 6 to 9 p.m. each Monday from Sept. 8 through Nov. 3 at the Twin Bridges Lodge in Danville.
The mission of the Indiana Master Naturalist program is to bring together natural resource specialists with adult learners to foster an understanding of Indiana's plants, water, soils, and wildlife and to promote volunteer service in local communities.
"The program is similar to the Master Gardener but geared toward outdoor education on conservation, and hands-on experience of our natural resources," said Carole Smith, assistant director of the program. "It also provides participants with the opportunity to establish short- or long-term partnerships with a natural resources agency or local organization involved in natural resource management by volunteering as a part of the course."
There are several courses offered in Indiana this year and the sessions are $25 per participant. Course topics vary and include watersheds and water quality, trees and forestry, wildflowers, birds and rehabilitation, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, conservation and restoration, survival and orienteering.
"It's important for people to understand just what our natural resources are and to know why we should be conscious of our conservation needs in order to maintain those resources," Smith said. "We have some very knowledgeable speakers lined up and are very excited to provide this opportunity to the community."
