AVON — A Michigan motorcyclist was killed and one driver was injured Monday evening in a five-vehicle crash here at the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 900 East.
Authorities said the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Avon police officers responded to the scene and were assisted by the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash closed U.S. 36 for nearly four hours.
The motorcyclist was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Avon Police Sgt. Jeff Lewis declined to release the name of the motorcyclist, stating that authorities have not verified that the family has been notified.
The injured motorist — 24-year-old Jason S. Lantz of Union Mills — sustained head injuries. He was treated and released from Methodist.
Lewis said the cause of the crash and speed of the vehicles involved is still under investigation, but he confirmed that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. He also said that there was no indication of drugs or alcohol.
