Posh Parties brings family members together
Business to host wedding event July 26
By Brenda L. Holmes
PLAINFIELD — Tara Sherman has been helping to plan weddings and other parties for years. She is joined in business at Posh Parties with her mother, Bonnie Woods, and her cousin, Sarah Walker.
“We’ve been doing this for several years but it was official as of about a year and a half ago,” Sherman said. “We have a new building and we are getting ready to host our first bridal show.”
The trio help their clients to plan their celebrations then they enlist their family members to help during the day of the event.
“We can do weddings, corporate events, any kind of party,” she said. “Last week we did a graduation party.”
A majority of their clients are planning weddings. When they sign a new client they meet with them and talk about exactly what they want and then discuss their budget, Sherman said.
“Usually these meetings will last about two hours,” she said. “After that meeting, I will sit down and come up with five or six packages.”
She said the business also offers rentals so it can often be less expensive to go through their planning service.
“We have a lot of rentals so I will integrate them into the packages,” she said. “We really try to save them money. And we can help with just about any budget.”
She said they don’t really work on a flat rate. They try to make it work for their clients.
“And we are very family oriented,” she said. “We love to do weddings together. We really just love it.”
All of the ladies have full-time jobs, so they do most of their planning and work with clients in the evenings and weekends.
“It really tends to work out well for us,” Sherman said. “They have jobs too, so they need to meet in the evening anyway.”
Her goal, she said is to one day make Posh Parties her full-time vocation.
“I just really enjoy it,” she said.
Sherman and Walker both graduated from Plainfield High School in 1996. Woods lives in Mooresville.
Posh Parties will be hosting a bridal show from noon to 3 p.m. July 26 at Primo West Banquet Facility in Plainfield. There are already 35 businesses who have agreed to participate.
Admission is $4 at the door with $1 going toward breast cancer research.
“My mom is a breast cancer survivor, so it’s really important to us to raise this money,” she said.
