PLAINFIELD — There is a place for Plainfield residents who don’t have their own yard to grow their own vegetables. The town, with help from Center Community Church, is offering a free community garden.
“The idea had been brought up at council within the last year, but there was never a good location,” said Clay Chafin, parks and recreation director for the Town of Plainfield. “Center Community Church on County Road 700 East has donated the land for the garden.”
C.R. 700 E. is between Center Street and Hadley Road in Plainfield.
Gardeners can plant their own gardens on individual reserved 20x20-feet plots.
“It is going very well — 13 of the original 20 plots have been reserved,” Chafin said.
To participate, gardeners must sign a release and agree to only work on their plot. They must also bring their own trash bags to dispose of any pulled weeds or other waste.
Water drums are available at the garden, but participants need to bring their own watering cans to transport the water.
There is no cost for the program.
