A wet road surface is being blamed for a one-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on South County Line Road. Indiana State Police responded to the scene, about 1,000 feet east of State Road 39, at around 5:30 p.m.
Police say Adam D. Springmeyer, 23, of Batesville, was westbound in a 2000 Ford passenger car when he came to a one-lane bridge. He told police that another car was coming from the east, so he applied his brakes but quickly began to slide on the wet pavement.
Police say Springmeyer lost control of his vehicle, went off the north side of the road, and struck the concrete bridge abutment with the front of his vehicle.
He suffered a fractured leg and complained of chest pains. He was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by Liberty Township Ambulance.
Emergency response workers said Springmeyer was wearing a seatbelt and the air bags did deploy, which helped prevent more serious injuries.
