Victory Field to host family event
By kevin leibrock
INDIANAPOLIS — Tickets for Indianapolis Indians games are already modestly priced at $9 and $13, but at an upcoming event in June, Hendricks County residents will be able to see a game at Victory Field for even less.
The event — the sixth annual Hendricks County Family Night with the Indians — is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 5 and is sponsored by the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hendricks Regional Health, Hendricks Power Cooperative, and the Hendricks County Flyer.
Attendees have the opportunity to get two tickets for the price of one, as thousands of buy-one-get-one-free coupons are available at the county chambers of commerce in Avon, Brownsburg, Danville, and Plainfield. Coupons may also be picked up at the Hendricks County Flyer office in Avon and the HCCVB office in Danville.
Jamie Bohler Smith, associate director for the HCCVB, said the event has been popular through the years and she expects a large crowd.
“The turnout has been spectacular,” she said. “It’s been a great opportunity to get members from all parts of the county at an event and we have more and more people each time. I’ve been going every year and it’s just fun to sit in the stands, talk to people you know, and meet new people as well.”
The event will feature more than baseball.
Visitors can register to win a prize pack from Hendricks Regional Health and there will be a raffle for Kings Island tickets. The Hendricks County Flyer is running an essay contest for area youth ages 6-12 to determine who will throw out the first pitch.
Members of the Marlins, a Brownsburg little league team, will get an opportunity to be on the field with the Indians for the pre-game introductions.
Free transportation to Victory Field will be provided. Each bus will feature restrooms and can hold about 50 people. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. One person on each bus will win four tickets to that night’s game between the Indians and the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
The bus serving Avon and Danville residents will depart from Washington Township Community Park in Avon. The Brownsburg bus will leave from the Brownsburg Community Center, and the Plainfield bus can be boarded at the Guilford Township Community Center in Hummel Park.
“We want to pack the house,” Smith said. “We see this as a fantastic opportunity to see some great baseball. It’s the first week of June too, so the kids will be just getting out of school.”
