The League of American Bicyclists has declared May as the 52nd Annual National Bike Month. To recognize bicycling in Indiana, Gov. Mitch Daniels has also proclaimed May as Indiana Bike Month.
The Indiana Bicycle Coalition (IBC) is helping to promote more than 40 bicycle related rides, races, and events throughout the state.
IBC is also distributing its annual Bicycle Indiana Resource Guide and launching its 2008 BikeSmart Poster Contest. The free Bicycle Indiana Resource Guide highlights more than 200 rides, races and events, resources, and other information related to bicycling in Indiana. The BikeSmart Poster Contest, with a theme of “Ready, Set, Bike!,” is designed for students in grades kindergarten through 12 and has had more than 4,000 entries since its inception in 2000. Winners of the contest are eligible to win gift certificates, helmets, and bicycle safety materials.
The Bicycle Indiana Resource Guide and BikeSmart Poster Contest entry forms are available at bicycle retail dealers, convention and visitor bureaus, and other tourism centers.
