BROWNSBURG — Jeffrey Rhodes, a sixth-grader from Brownsburg West Middle School, was recently presented the CollegeChoice Future Leaders Award.
Teacher Robert Freije nominated him for the award and described Rhodes as a born leader.
“Jeffrey does an excellent job of leading by example,” Freije said. “He has the proven ability to inspire others to do their best while encouraging teamwork amongst his peers.”
Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock was on hand to announce Rhodes’ win and present him with a $1,000 scholarship account.
The award provides a $1,000 CollegeChoice 529 Investment Plan account for a student who exemplifies any one or a combination of the following: Community service; progress/improvement in a specific area; overcoming personal obstacles; and/or excellence in academics, athletics, arts, or music.
“The CollegeChoice Future Leaders Award is a program that awards Hoosier students for demonstrating leadership qualities in their school and community,” Mourdock said. “Jeffrey’s devotion to helping his school and his peers while maintaining his own academic excellence makes him an ideal candidate for this award.”
Brownsburg West Middle School also received $250 to be used to foster its leadership activities.
Nominations for the ongoing program may be submitted by anyone who knows of a student deserving of the award. For complete program rules or a nomination form, visit the website at www.collegechoiceplan.com/leaders or call 232-5259.
