Kalish, Englehardt in, Buckley out in tight Avon School Board Race

by Brian Kern

DANVILLE — The Avon School Board of Trustees will soon have two new faces. Newcomers Traci Kalish and Anne Engelhardt each secured seats on the board along with incumbent and current School Board President Kim Woodward who tallied the most votes in one of the County’s most tightly contested races.

Vice-president Mark Buckley was unsuccessful in his bid for reelection, having been defeated by less than a 1 percent margin.

Buckley’s defeat surprised outgoing Board Member Lloyd Acton who recently announced his retirement after 7 terms and 28 years on the School Board.

“It didn’t work the way I would have preferred it would work, but I hope board can pull together and do what’s right for our kids,” Acton said.

In the Plainfield race for School Board it was Scott Flood who won the evening, securing his third consecutive term. Flood will be joined by Dana Johnson and David Mansfield who also were victorious by comfortable margins.

“We’ve got a strong foundation that we’re going to build on and I’m very excited to be a part of the plans we have implemented to be able to see those plans come to fruition,” Flood said. “I enjoy serving the Plainfield community and it’s a nice feeling to be asked back for another four years.”

In Brownsburg, Richard Sutton, Kim Lucas and Kimberly Armstrong all coasted to victors in their respective School Board races, and in Danville Debbi Austin and Todd Cloncs will join Brandon Lawson as School Board members.

There was only one contested seat in Mill Creek where Maralee Edmondson was a nearly 2 to 1 winner over challenger Margaret Weatherman.
