Brief standoff ends with arrest of Plainfield man

Hendricks County deputies arrested a Plainfield man on charges of domestic battery and strangulation after a brief standoff last Friday evening.

Deputies, along with officers from the Plainfield Police Department, were dispatched to 3384 Vestal Road, Plainfield, at about 8:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, police spoke to a woman who said her husband, Thomas Tridle, had struck her several times and threatened to kill her. She said he eventually let her go and locked himself inside their home.

According to a police report, authorities contacted Tridle by phone and were told that he had a gun. Police say Tridle told them he didn’t want to hurt anyone, but would if officers forced entry into the home in order to arrest him.

The Hendricks County Emergency Response Team (ERT) and negotiators were called to the scene at about 9:30 p.m. Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department negotiator Capt. Clark Fine eventually talked Tridle into coming out the back door unarmed. Police say he surrendered at about 10:30 p.m.

Tridle, 52, was taken to the Hendricks County Jail in Danville and charged with domestic battery and strangulation, both D felonies.

His wife was taken to Clarian West hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
