Brownsburg High School juniors and seniors, along with their prom guests, will have the opportunity to view the new Spiderman movie during their post prom at Pavilion Cinemas.
BROWNSBURG — Tired of having the same old inflatable obstacle courses and casino games for post prom activities, parents in charge of the post prom here decided to bring in a little Hollywood.
This year’s Brownsburg High School post prom festivities will be held at Pavilion Cinemas, 1555 N. Green St., where students can watch the blockbuster movie “Spiderman 3.”
Paula Bray, chairperson for the committee, said she and the other members have always set up an indoor playground in the high school gymnasium for the students following prom. But over the years, they’ve noticed a drop in post prom attendance, even though enrollment for the high school has been increasing.
“We wanted to create more excitement,” Bray said. “Something new to get more students to attend.”
She said they decided to go with the movie screening and added that there will also be an alternative movie available for students to view.
Bray said “Spiderman 3” launches at the cinema on May 4, the night before prom, and should generate a lot of interest for the students.
The cinema will open at midnight for BHS post prom goers and the movie will start at 12:30 a.m. Post prom will run from midnight to 3 a.m. A disc jockey from Heart Breaker Video will provide entertainment in the lobby, and door prizes will be handed out during “Game Show Mania.”
There will also be a full-service espresso bar sponsored by Pete Fay State Farm to help the students stay up all night.
Bray also mentioned there will be an all-day trip to King’s Island on May 6 to cap off the students’ prom experience. This trip is open to all students, but there is room for only 104 students on the two buses. Tickets are sold separately. The buses will leave from the high school at 8 a.m. and should return about 11 p.m.
While attending post prom, junior and seniors have the opportunity to receive one of three $500 scholarships from two area real estate agencies. The scholarships are not based on grades, extra-curricular activities, or any of the other usual criteria. Bray said students are eligible to receive the scholarships just by being at the festivities.
Carpenter Realtors’ Cathy Burris, Lea Grove, Jamie Hall, Susan Blandford, Linda Bailey, Peggy Smith, Michele Allison, Judy Creed, Kristi Shults, Judy Roy, and Janet Fisher all contributed to create a $500 scholarship.
That, combined with a $1,000 donation from F.C. Tucker Realtors Bray, Beverly Viehe, Linda Wilcox, and Marty Wagner, brings the total scholarship funds to $1,500.
Students must be a junior or senior at the high school to attend the post prom festivities. All guests of these students are also invited to attend, and students do not have to attend the prom in order to attend post prom.
Tickets will be sold during lunch at the school from April 30 to May 3. Post prom tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Post prom attendees will also be required to show their student identification cards.
