Avon resident pens book on travels

RoseDog Books has published Pilgrimages by Avon’s Bill Glass.

It’s a journal of 10 guided tours taken by the author. Each tour was a pilgrimage because on each he made a spiritual connection, “an experience not unlike that feeling of strange familiarity called deja vu,” Glass said in a press release.

The first tour was in 1970, when Glass was a Marine stationed at the U.S. Naval base in Rota, Spain. He visited Italy, Egypt, Cyprus, Israel, and Greece.

After his retirement, Glass and his wife Ann made eight trips to the British Isles. They toured England in 1998; Ireland in 2003; England again in ‘04; Ireland again in ‘05; Scotland and England in ‘06; England, Wales, and Scotland in ‘07; Ireland again in ‘08; and England, Scotland, and Ireland in ‘10. Indiana State University’s alumni association sponsored the trips from 2003-05. In 2011, the Glasses visited The Netherlands.

Pilgrimages provides preparation for trips to those countries featured in it and has more than 200 full-color photographs. It is available online at amazon.com or RoseDogBookstore.com, or by calling (800) 834-1803.

Glass was born in Chicago and raised in Indianapolis, where he graduated from North Central High School. After graduating from ISU, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is retired from the U.S. Civil Service. Glass has worked as an air traffic controller, IRS revenue officer, and Veterans Administration benefits counselor.

He has more than 2,000 books in his library and has been a season ticket-holder with Indiana Repertory Theatre since 1976.
