Craft classes help support The Gathering Together

The community is invited to participate in craft classes held at The Gathering Together. Class participants will turn simple stones and wire into jewelry.

Attendees will make one item that will be sold by The Gathering to further their mission, and another to keep for themselves.

The Gathering Together is dedicated to preserving a dying person’s dignity by bringing families together with enhanced end-of-life care.

Kate Anderson of Danville teaches the classes.

“One of my greatest joys is seeing the looks on my students’ faces when they receive a compliment on something they have created with their own hands,” Anderson said, in a press release.

“It’s amazing how the skill of the participants have grown over time,” said Rita Fiorentina, founder of The Gathering Together. “The funds raised by the classes have truly been a blessing to our mission.”

The cost of each class is $25 and includes the two pieces of jewelry and all materials. Students may come just to learn and make pieces for The Gathering Together at no charge.

Classes are held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. The schedule of upcoming crafts include: wire bracelet, April 4; silk flower pin, May 5; tree of life pendant, June 13; wire wrapped ring, Aug. 8; braided seed bead necklace, Sept. 9; and button necklace, Oct. 10.

The classes are always in need of material donations. Those items needed are: colored wire in various gauges and colors; tools — wire cutters, round nose pliers, chain nose/needle nose pliers, and scissors; silky synthetic fabric in pretty colors; felt; needle and thread; semi precious stone chips; chain for necklaces; open jump rings; and clasps.

Those who would like to donate are asked to call Kate Anderson at 757-617-4620.
