— To the Editor:
While we were sleeping earlier this week, the Indiana House of Representatives passed legislation to approve of you paying 1/3 percent more on your state income tax for the mass transport system for Indianapolis by a vote of 56 for and 39 opposed.
If you make $50,000 per year it will cost you an additional $150 per year in county income taxes. Some more or less, depending on income. (E.G. $100,000 = $300 tax. Low income = probably zero.)
Your representatives in Hendricks County voted as follows:
Robert Behning - Yes
Greg Steuerwald - No
Jeff Thompson - No
This should give you an idea of who to vote for in the next election.
The best way to stop this future taxation without representation, or use, is to contact your local State Senator who, in Plainfield, is Michael Young.
If the bill passes the Senate, the citizens are supposed to be given the right to vote yes or no in an election.
I'm sure those who are in favor of the bill will not publicize it any more than they did the House Bill (HB1011).
On our Hendricks County board I know Palmer is against and Hesson is for the measure. I don't know about the rest. Go to the Hendricks County board meetings to find out more.
Remember, "No man's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session" - Mark Twain.
