— To the Editor:

On April 27, Dr. Jeff Butts demonstrated a rare form of servant leadership as he participated in the Go Love Indy westside service project.

He worked with a team of people clearing out the old B&O railroad track bed that runs between Ben Davis High School and Covenant Christian High School. This project was to help expand and support the B&O Rails to Trails program.

Dr. Butts quickly showed his prowess at operating an old farm tractor to push a large chipping machine down the trail. His tractoring skills were also used to pull out a team member’s car that had gotten stuck in the mud from the recent rains. He also helped lift and feed large trees and brush into the chipper.

It was great to have such good help and show of support from a leader who could have easily justified ‘just taking Saturday off.’

Thanks Dr. Butts….you make a difference!
