Road condition update

ASHLAND —   Crews are making progress on clearing state highways now that sunshine has traded places with snow and sleet, according to District 9 of the Kentucky Department of Highways.

As of 3 p.m., most main routes, such as Interstate 64, U.S. 23, U.S. 60 and other Priority A roads had improved to only partly covered with black pavement showing in some lanes. While plow crews are beginning to work back roads, those other routes are mostly to completely covered with snow.

The goal now is to continue plowing and treating all roads with salt to clear as many highways as possible before nightfall. And, crews will continue working 12-hour shifts into Tuesday.

Road condition updates are available by calling 511 or visiting 511.ky.gov, or via District 9's social media accounts at Twitter.com/KYTCDistrict9 and Facebook.com/KYTCDistrict9. Find your county's priority route listings, and learn more about snow removal efforts by following District 9 online at http://Bit.ly/D9Snow.
