Soldier returns from Iraq
U.S. Army First Sgt. Ronald J. Taylor has returned to Alaska after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Taylor is assigned to the Second Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, a subordinate unit of the Fourth Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Ala.
In addition, Taylor has been decorated with the Bronze Star Medal. It is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement, or distinguished service not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy; or while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.
He has also been decorated with the Combat Action Badge and has served in the military for 25 years.
Taylor is the son of Jerry L. and Patsy F. Taylor of Muncie. His wife, Heather, is the daughter of Thomas Pomeraz of Indianapolis and Marlene Carter of Brownsburg. He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1982 and from the American Public University in Manassas, Va., with a bachelor’s degree in 2003.
