PLAINFIELD — First Merchants Charitable Foundation presented individual checks to 10 Hendricks County non-profit organizations during a ceremony Thursday at the First Merchants Bank branch here.
A total of $27,360 was distributed to organizations aimed at helping the community and contributing their services to a good cause.
“It’s amazing when you start out with something like this, how it grows,” John Baer, treasurer for the foundation, said. “We’re proud of that, and glad we could help the community. That’s why this was set up to start with, so it could live beyond any of us.”
Non-profits receiving variable amounts included St. Marks Food Pantry, Freedom Chairs, Hendricks County Community Foundation, Hendricks County Senior Services, Leadership Hendricks County, Sheltering Wings, Kingsway Community Center, Hendricks College Network, Strides for Success and Suzie’s Place.
Since the first distribution in 1999, First Merchants Charitable Foundation has given $723,258 in Hendricks County alone and $1,666,063 in total.
David Mansfield, president of the foundation, said, “We appreciate everything all of your organizations do in Hendricks County. Without you, life wouldn’t be as good out here.”
