Flea market opens in Hendricks County

DANVILLE —

When Lee Stichter and his sister Glenda Fouts opened their first flea market six years ago, they had no idea they would one day own multiple stores throughout Central Indiana.

The duo is originally from Lafayette but now live in the Indianapolis area. Their first flea market is called the Peddlers Mall on the east side of Indianapolis. They have since opened a Peddlers Mall on the west side of Indy and Trader Buck’s Flea Markets in three locations.

“This is our fifth flea market,” Stichter said. “My sister used to set up at some other flea markets. This was kind of her passion.”

Stichter had experience in starting businesses, so a natural partnership began.

“She’s been a great business partner,” he said. “I just really enjoy it. There are some days when it does feel like a job, but most of the time it’s just fun.”

Trader Buck’s Flea Market is currently looking for vendorswith wares to sell. Vendors just need to set up their booth and the employees at the flea market take care of the rest.

“I think people like doing this because they don’t have to be here for their stuff to be sold,” Stichter said. “They can set it all up and we handle the selling. Then we cut them a check every few weeks on the products they’ve sold.”

He said many of the vendors will have booths at the various flea markets under their umbrella.

“People love to flea market hop,” he said. “We like to keep them close enough so that our vendors don’t have far to go. Most of them have full-time jobs and just do this as a part time thing.”

For more information on becoming a vendor, call 745-1500, e-mail to traderbucksdanville@yahoo.com, or visit the website at www.indianafleamarkets.com.

“We get a lot of referrals from our website,” Stichter said. “It has a lot of information and does a good job explaining what we do.”
