AVON —Hot Skates of Avon will be hosting an Affordable Family Fun Night to encourage families to get out of the house and participate in a fun activity with tremendous fitness benefits this summer.
This is part of an on-going effort by Hot Skates to combat childhood obesity. $1 skate sessions will be offered from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Thursday throughout the summer.
According to the Roller Skating Association International:
•Roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body’s muscles, especially the heart.
•Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits-caloric consumption, reduction of body fat and leg strength development.
•Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.
•The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.
Hot Skates in Avon has recently taken over Rock N Roller and renovated the building completely.
There is a brand new wood floor with fantastic murals, over 20 video games, and café.
“We are excited to provide families with an affordable and fun alternative to exercise this summer,” Amy Lebo, Event Coordinator said. “This is just one of the many ways we are encouraging families to make a healthy move in an effort to turn the entire community into a healthier community.”
Hot Skates is located at 241 Casco Drive in Avon.
