PLAINFIELD — Alesia Manuel says she loves finding people and delivering good news.
With more than 19 years of insurance experience, she’s developed a life-long passion for helping others with her private investigative skills.
“I want to find people and get them their money,” Manuel said.
Years of working in an insurance office brought state rules and regulations to the forefront of Manuel’s mind. Excess money from insurance claims and unclaimed property funds sit with the state for a maximum of 25 years.
If recipients do not claim the money, when the calendar reaches 25 years and one day, the money belongs to the state.
Manuel suggests visiting the website at IndianaUnclaimed.gov to look for personal and relative information, but says often “people forget to check or don’t know relatives several generations back.”
She wants to change that.
“I have a passion for helping people,” she said.
Manuel is an Indiana Notary Public in order to assist clients with documentation and verification of legal documents.
While finding unclaimed funds is her specialty, she’s also had years of experience in handwriting comparison, insurance fraud, and investigations. She can conduct background checks, surveillance, services, adoptive parent research, missing persons, identity theft, asset recovery and skip tracing, among other things.
Her biggest frustration, she said, is working to alert individuals of her findings only to met with disbelief.
“I just want people to believe me,” she said. “Those scams phone calls and e-mails are asking the public for money. I am not. I’m trying to save the world, one family at a time.”
