John Almond has been promoted to funeral director and Eric Austin was named managing director at the Floral Park Funeral Center. Floral Park is at 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis. The promotions are effective immediately.
Almond was born in Wabash, but also lived in North Manchester, Greentown, New Castle, and Floyds Knobs during his youth.
He graduated from Floyd Central High School in 1972 and went on to earn a degree from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in ‘75. After graduation he worked in funeral homes in Huntington, North Manchester, Speedway, and Muncie before joining Flanner and Buchanan four months ago.
Austin is a native of Carmi, Ill., and was raised in nearby Carbondale. He completed an associate’s degree in mortuary science at Southern Illinois University in 1980 and two years later received a bachelor’s degree, also from SIU.
For several years he was employed in funeral homes in Fairfield and Albion in Illinois and from 2001 to ‘07 operated his own funeral home in Mount Vernon. He joined Flanner and Buchanan in August of 2011.
Founded in 1881, Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers are owned by Bruce and Brian Buchanan. Flanner and Buchanan has 14 event facilities throughout central Indiana — six of which are combined with cemeteries — as well as its crematory, the Cremation Center of Indiana. The centers also host weddings, reunions, business retreats, and community events.
