State Rep Todd Rokita said Sawyer was an "outstanding choice" for Berry's replacement.
"Duane Sawyer is a devoted and talented public servant," he said. "I had the unique privilege of swearing Dwayne in when he was first elected to public office, and I have watched him serve Brownsburg with humility, good sense and strong conservative values."
Secretary of State Connie Lawson said she also applauded Pence's selection.
"I've known Dwayne for years and believe he will be great in his new role. I look forward to working with him and watching him succeed in his new endeavor."
The swearing-in ceremony for Sawyer is planned for Aug. 19. Deputy Auditor Kirke Willing is serving as auditor on an interim basis until then.
