Man arrested for Avon murder

Hendricks County law enforcement officials have arrested a Plainfield man in connection to the alleged murder of an Avon woman in June.

Officers with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department and the county’s United Drug Task Force arrested Antonio Miles, 20, for the murder of Trinity Ann Johnson.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the prosecutor’s office, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person shot just after 4 p.m. June 8 at a residence on Sugarwood Lane in Avon.

Officials reportedly found Johnson, 19, lying on the kitchen floor covered in blood. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report states Miles and Johnson were the only ones home at the time, other than the couple’s baby. They lived in Johnson’s mother’s house.

Miles reportedly told investigators that Johnson was handling a Rugar semi-automatic pistol while seated at the kitchen table while he was gathering items for the baby to take her to a hospital for a fever. Miles allegedly gave conflicting statements about where he was when Johnson supposedly shot herself. He also allegedly told police he moved the body from the table because he didn’t want Johnson to be alone while he went for help, as he didn’t have a phone with him. The affidavit states Miles called for help to a construction crew that was roofing a residence across the street.

An autopsy report indicated the gunshot wound was on the left side of Johnson’s lower face, adjacent to the corner of her mouth. Johnson’s mother reportedly told investigators that her daughter was right-handed. In addition, forensic pathologists concluded the direction of the gunshot was front to back and downward left to right. There also was no evidence of close-range firing around the gunshot wound of the victim such as soot, searing, or gunpowder stippling. They ruled cause of death as homicide.

Subsequent investigation reportedly revealed Miles and Johnson had a history of domestic violence. The affidavit states people interviewed who knew the couple stated they either personally knew of physical altercations between the two or had heard of such incidents. As well, police state Johnson’s iPhone contained text messages and notes describing her being slapped, punched, choked, shoved, and dragged by her foot by “Tonio Christopher Miles.”
