Detectives investigating a body found on West 34th Street

At 12:28 a.m. on April 23, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West 34th Street on a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived they found an unidentified man bound in the alley south of West 34th street. EMS officials were immediately dispatched to the scene. The victim was declared deceased by EMS personnel a short time later.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene. Witness stated observing a “Street Racer” type vehicle fleeing this location prior to the arrival of police. The victim’s identity will be released once positive identification is made and family members have been notified.

Detectives have not yet provided any additional suspect information or established an identity or where the victim lived. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will establish identification, the cause and manner of death, after an autopsy which is expected sometime later today.  Detectives urge anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 317|262.TIPS (8477).  Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
