Woman injured in accidental shooting

Hendricks County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that took place just before 8 p.m. Thursday at 5775 Ridgehill Way, Avon.

Police say two teens were handling a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in an upstairs bedroom when it appeared to have been accidentally fired through the floor.

The 12-gauge round traveled through the floor into a bathroom located directly beneath the bedroom and struck a female who was inside changing clothes.

The male who fired the weapon was Leif A. Senecal, the 19 year old son of the homeowner.

The female victim, 18 year old Rachel L. Myers, was taken by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries to her thighs.

The incident is still under investigation.
