Last month, the Brownsburg Cheer Committee made the decision to disband after the unexpected resignation of two key board members.
The Board of Directors voted to officially shut the doors on Oct. 17.
According to information from President Bob Kiefer, the 501-C-3 corporation was founded in 1946.
The committee was a 100 percent volunteer organization comprised of Executive Directors Pat Kiefer and Sally Mecklenburg, Treasurer Mac Moore, and Secretary Harlan Hinkle with Michael Clark, Beverly Clark, Joe Knueven, Marion Knueven, Paul Mecklenburg, Brian Petraits, Laura Petraits, Dr. Christopher Wehrle, and Wendy Wright serving as board of directors members.
The above people and several hundred other community volunteers over the years have helped the committee touch the lives of children in the Brownsburg Community School Corporation and the St. Malachy School for the many years the non-perishable food drive has been conducted.
Kiefer said the Brownsburg Cheer Committee has served about 3,500 families or well over 10,000 people over the past 20-plus years, on average helping 130 to 190 families during the Christmas season.
Keifer added that the club wouldn’t have been able to help so many people without the assistance of volunteers, local service clubs, and churches.
