A new exhibition, Ice Age Giants: The Mystery of Mammoths and Mastodons is now open at the Indiana State Museum.
Underneath Indiana’s soil lies a hidden graveyard of Ice Age giants. Entombed for thousands of years, the remains of these ancient elephants continue to be uncovered by Hoosiers across the state. The Indiana State Museum has been hard at work for decades — discovering, digging, studying and preserving the remains of mammoths, mastodons and other Ice Age animals.
Visitors to the museum may experience the thrill of discovery for themselves. They can dig in a terraced, hands-on worksite; explore Ice Age forensics as they determine mastodon from mammoth, male from female, age and cause of death; and see the wonder of these creatures first-hand as Fred the Mastodon towers over visitors.
Entrance to the exhibit is included with general admission.
