Motorcycle victim identified as Pete Wingler

AVON - Police have released the name of an accident victim fatally injured at approximately 1:30 this afternoon. Pete Wingler, a former Plainfield Police Officer and Coatesville Town Marshall, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while traveling west-bound on U.S. 36 in Avon near the Wal-Mart location.



According to witness statements, Wingler may have lost control while trying to avoid a rear-end collision with stopped traffic up ahead.



Avon Police Chief, Jack Miler, said that EMS workers did find a motorcycle helmet at the scene, but that the motorcycle's saddle bag had been broke open and the helmet's chin strap was intact suggesting that Wingler may not have been wearing it at the time of the incident.



Wingler did suffer head trauma and was transported to Hendricks Regional Health where he was pronounced dead.
