Two-vehicle crash leaves one dead, three injured
BY RYAN PALENCER
PITTSBORO —
In the third fatal automobile accident in Hendricks County in a week, one person was killed and a woman and her two young children were rushed to the hospital.
Brownsburg Fire Territory was called to the 2000 block of East U.S. 136 near the intersection of County Road 201 East around 8:45 a.m. Friday to respond to the accident.
“It appears to us that it was a head-on collision since both vehicles have major front end damage,” Ryan Miller, public information officer with the Brownsburg Fire Territory said. “We had one vehicle — a PT Cruiser — that was inverted in the middle of the roadway. The other vehicle — a Trailblazer — with major front end damage was down in the ditch just north of the roadway.”
The driver of the Chrysler PT Cruiser, 18-year-old Allison R. Mohney, was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 136.
The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ann E. Scott, 36, was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after being extricated from the vehicle. She is reportedly being treated for leg injuries.
Both drivers are from the Pittsboro area. Mohney is a 2009 graduate of Tri-West High School.
“(The Trailblazer) was also occupied by two young children who were also taken out of the vehicle in their car seats,” Miller said. “They were transported to Methodist Hospital as well.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident, but Hendricks County Sherrif's Capt. Bryan Tremper said that it appears that the PT Cruiser went left of the center line in the road and the two vehicles collided.
Tremper said the two children who were in the Trailblazer are in better condition than their mother, and that their father is with them now.
This has been a busy week for Hendricks County authorities.
A two-vehicle accident last Saturday afternoon took the lives of Luke S. Lovins of Cloverdale and Erin C. Ford of Coatesville, and left three of Ford’s family members in the hospital.
Sixteen-year-old Kristian Ophof of Brownsburg was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Raceway Road. Three others involved in that accident were hospitalized.
“Our hearts go out to the families,” Tremper said. “Our thoughts are with them.”
It has also been a busy week for the Brownsburg Fire Territory. In addition to working the automobile accidents, they have also handled a mobile home fire where 13-year-old Tyler Hensley lost his life.
Miller said such tragedies also take a toll on the department and added that help is available, if needed.
“This isn’t normal for us,” Miller said. “We have a lot of runs, but to have this many serious runs, and so many involving fatalities, it does take a toll on the personnel.
“That’s why it is important for us as a department to make sure that we are taking care of our own personnel. If they need somebody to talk to, we are going to make sure that we get them somebody. I’m not just speaking for Brownsburg fire, but Pittsboro and Lizton who are out here with us.”
